HOW DOES IT WORK?

The P.E.N.S. neurostimulator device is placed behind your ear to administer continuous electrode pulses that generate a low-level electrical current to nerve endings in the ear.

ADVANTAGES OF THE PROGRAM:

  • FDA cleared Class Il Medical Device (Non-acupuncture device)
  • Offering relief from chronic pain and Opioid withdrawal
  • Covered by most insurance payers
  • Temporary device worn for 10-12 days with results lasting up to 2-6 months
1

Before Device Treatment

  • Prior to implantation, the device is programmed through a Programming Technical Unit (PTU) based on your provider's diagnosis.
  • Your physician generates an ear map and utilizes a nerve finder to identify the implantation location. Titanium needle arrays are implanted into your ear. You wear the device for 10-12 days, with results offering 2 to 6 months of pain relief.
  • This device's success rate consistent with 70% of patients, many times coupled with a significant reduction in opioid prescriptions.

During Device Treatment

Your ear provides multiple points for nerve stimulation to alleviate pain. Stimulation is performed by electrical pulses emitted through strategically positioned tacks. The pulses produced by the neurostimulator travel through the nerve tracks into the central lobe of the brain, causing the release of endorphins, the body's natural opiates. These endorphins travel through the bloodstream and inhibit pain throughout the body. This reduces pain, increases circulation, causes relaxation, creates less anxiety, depression, and in many cases, increases sleep.
