Cell Restoration for Acute and Chronic Pain

Regenerative medicine in Northwest Arkansas is a great option for damaged tissue. It has the potential to heal or replace tissues damaged by age, disease, or trauma, as well as to normalize congenital disabilities.

There are many strategies of regenerative medicine, including the use of autogenous (self) cells and allogeneic (donor) cells, to take the place of missing tissue, effectively replacing it both structurally and functionally, or to contribute to tissue healing. The body's innate healing response may also be leveraged to promote regeneration. The ultimate aim of regenerative medicine is to return the patient to full health with respect to the particular condition.

Regenerative medicine has the potential to treat improve the health for a variety of diseases and conditions, and can assist in the healing process by releasing growth factors and cytokines back into the damaged tissue. Every year with additional research, regenerative medicine and cellular therapies are becoming more and more common.

The Benefits of Regenerative Medicine

1. Enhanced healing and reduced pain

Regenerative medicine focuses on addressing the root cause of pain instead of simply managing symptoms. Orthobiologic therapies do this by delivering growth factors to the injured area to aid tissue healing. This allows patients to heal and experience less pain than with traditional medicine.

2. Increased functionality

Regenerative medicine promotes the production of collagen in the body, which strengthens tendons and tissues. When the tendons and tissues on and surrounding the joints are strengthened, they increase the range of motion in joints, allowing you to move freely and complete everyday tasks freely again.

3. Faster recovery

The growth factors used in regenerative medicine help jumpstart the regenerative process of tissues and tendons, leading to faster healing. This allows you to (safely) return to your normal activities sooner.

4. Reduced risk of future injuries and pain

Collagen tightens and strengthens the tendons in the joints, minimizing the risk of future injuries and pain.

How is PRP Utilized to Heal the Body?

PRP therapy, which takes approximately twenty minutes to complete, begins with a collection of the patient's blood. The blood sample is placed in a

centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the other components of whole blood.

Practitioners then inject the concentrated platelets into the site of the injury often using ultrasound guidance for accuracy. Platelets function as a natural reservoir for growth factors that are essential to repair injured tissues.

The growth factors that the platelets secrete stimulate tissue recovery by increasing collagen production, enhancing tendon stem cell proliferation, and tenocyte-related gene and protein expression.

These growth factors also stimulate blood flow and cause the cartilage to become more firm and resilient. PRP activates tenocytes to proliferate quickly and produce collagen to repair injured tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and muscles.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma(PRP)?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a form of regenerative medicine and is essentially an increased concentration of autologous platelets suspended in a small amount of plasma after centrifugation. It is also known as termed autologous platelet gel, plasma rich in growth factors (PRF), and platelet concentrate (PC).

Platelets play a fundamental role in hemostasis and are a natural source of growth factors. Growth factors, stored within platelet a-granules, include platelet-derived growth factor (PDF), insulin-like growth factor (IF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), platelet-derived angiogenic factor (PDAF), and

transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-B).

The release of these growth factors is triggered by the activation of platelets that can be initiated by a variety of substances or stimuli such as thrombin, calcium chloride, or collagen.

Growth factors are involved in key stages of wound healing and regenerative processes including chemotaxis, proliferation, differentiation, and angiogenesis.
